About Me

So who am I? That’s a great question. I am a Wife, a Mom, a lover of the Lord Almighty. When I was a child, my Mother, Wanda Mae introduced me to the great outdoors. And that was the beginning of my love affair.

While attending Junior High School, I met a friend who invited me backpacking with her family. There were six of us kids and her father. He loaded the van and drove us to the Purgatory Trail in Colorado. It did not take me long to realize this was what God created me for! We spent ten days hiking over mountain passes and in Colorado fashion, we experienced all sorts of weather. Snow, sleet, ice and rain along with some beautiful blue bird days. Before long, I was inviting friends from High School to join me backpacking, now that I was the resident expert, NOT!

As time went on, I was married with children and remember the days of backpacking with kids in tow. The length of the trips were minimal but the excitement of sharing my love with my children was incredible. Now that my children are grown up and having children of their own, I have the opportunity to take my passion to another level.

My passion and desire is thru-hiking. Finding a trail and following a ribbon of dirt from one end to the other. There is nothing in this world that gives me more joy than being outdoors, under a starry night or experience a wind that knocks me off my feet, or seeing fresh snow falling as I hike over a mountain pass. God puts passions on our heart and there is nothing that can squelch those desires.

As I continue to put my trusty backpack on, and walk outside, I hope I can inspire others to tap into their God-given gift and share it with others. My Lord has blessed me with a body that allows me to hike, the willingness to dream, and the tenacity to make it happen. As long as I have breath in my lungs, I will continue to hike for God.

  1. Love your inspirational words! They touched me today and made me rethink my thoughts as I struggle with poor Johns leg problems. Faith in our Lord – true undoubted faith is what I need to remind myself to do. So I am doing it now and I know God will be with me and John and get us through this with whatever we need to do and whatever comes our way. Thank you and God speed always. You are a true disciple of our Lord.๐ŸŒบ

  2. Kelly – you are right where you are supposed to be. Stay the course and you will be rewarded at the end, a renewal of your love for God and His love for you. You are honoring God with your love and discourse with fellow hikers as well as loved ones. You have cast all clothes of judgement and put on the robe of truth and love. Living as God wants us to live, living as God has planned for us, living in pure love and light. All else will work itself out if it is meant to be. We believe in you and love you dearly. ๐Ÿ˜

  3. Dear Kelly, I hope you are still doing well! I enjoy your updates and learning what trail life is about. Stay safe and peaceful in your travels!

  4. Kelly, Kelly, Kelly!!! You are almost there!! My goodness look how far your determination, will and love of God has taken you. You have been blessed all the way to the end. No major injuries, your feet are holding out well, your friends have constantly supported you and all the angels you meet along the way, could you ask for more? Always knew you’d do it – wish I could be there to greet you with a big hug and blessings – the end of this journey but the beginning of your new life!! Godspeed always – you are literally in my prayers morning, through the day and all night. I’ve been crazily consumed with your journey. I have lived so very vicariously through you. Love and miss you my dear sweet SFIC๐Ÿ˜

    • Thank you for your words of encouragement and support. I am in Trout Lake inside a nice, warm room out of the rain! Looks like rain for the next few days! Yeah, hopefully the fires will die down and I can make my way to Canada. Miss you!

  5. Glad to hear you made it through the rather precarious Knifes Edge. Whew! That is a big relief for you and us. Life is so full of new wonderment for us all to enjoy. Your trek has touched more lives than you will ever know not only on the trail but through all your golden words about Gods love and how his hands are on our shoulders all the time no matter where we are or what we are going through. He is there!!
As you reach the end your heart will be exploding with relief, sadness that it is over and with thanks for all the blessings, grace, love and protect that our good Lord covered you with as you hiked, and hiked and hiked to your destination. Always praying for you – be safe my dear sweet friend and looking forward to hearing more about how God has been so good to you and all the prayerful revelations that have been placed in your heart for your new life – life after the PCT trail. Love and miss you.๐Ÿ˜ God be with you!๐Ÿ™

  6. Always love reading your words of wisdom and comfort. This has been an amazing and life changing journey and, there is no doubt, that it has changed me! I look so forward to seeing you and sharing even more of this trek. Almost home!

  7. Almost home is right! We will all be anxious to see, hear from you and hug the stuffings out of you if there is any left! You skinny girl you. Be safe and know that not only is God with you, but all your friends and family are right there with every step you take. Enjoy your last moments on the trail – you have left a mark on all you encountered and even on the trail itself. There will never be another Kelly “GG” on the trail like you!! Love you ๐Ÿ˜

  8. Beautiful last messages as you approached the end of your journey. I think I would have been crying every day knowing I was leaving such beauty behind but overjoyed that I was able to finish the hike! Congratulations on a wonderful God filled journey and for allowing us to live it through your eyes and experiences. Thank you!

  10. Dear Kelly, It has been a year since you hiked the PCT. My son also completed the trail last year and your website helped me appreciate the beauty of his adventure along with yours. I am just wondering how you feel about your experience now and would you repeat it again or at least recommend it to others. Thank you for any replies!
    Sincerely, Cathy

    • Hi Cathy
There is not a day or two that passes that I don’t think about my journey on the PCT in 2015. It was an amazing hike, one that I would recommend to anyone, whether they undertake the entire 2650 miles or hike a section. I would hike it again in a heartbeat! I was fortunate to be able to take off five months of life and thoroughly embrace this moment in time. If God grants me another five months, yes, I would trek again. I would hike from Canada to Mexico, flip flop as we say, and experience different seasons on the trail. So glad that your son was able to experience this trail and I pray that God all calls me to trek again! I hiked last summer the Wonderland Trail in Rainier and have done smaller hikes but I long for another long distance hike! What about you? Any plans to get on the trail?

  11. You might have motivated me to try at least a section of it. I am not really a hiker, and certainly not a long-distance one, but your depiction of the entire trip, and the opportunity to experience the world in the way that God gave it to us, is inspiring! Thank you for sharing your experiences again! Cathy
